Ten years ago while working in the industry of installing rubber surfacing,
the Founder of KBI identified a significant opportunity within that industry utilizing recycled passenger tires.
Many products have been developed from the tire waste stream, but by far the largest consumer of tire waste goes up in smoke every day as “Tire Derived Fuel” for power plants, cement kilns, etc. This waste material is created by our own population and can indeed help solve one of our planets major problems - the conservation of our most valuable resource...water!
KBI has created a “GREEN” solution for the waste tires problem, through the development of a “Construction Material” that uses waste tires to address the “Population Increase - Storm Water Management Problem”, thus keeping tire waste from “Going Up in Smoke”!
A commercially viable construction material has been developed by KBI
called “KBI Flexi® - Pave”. This construction material consumes immense
quantities of waste tires. The tires are needed to provide the raw material
necessary for this extremely strong, porous and diverse construction
material.
KBI Flexi® -Pave has an incredible porosity rate of approximately 2,500
gallons per square foot, per hour; thus providing the natural perking of
water into the ground (ground water recharge) instead of flowing into the
storm water sewer. This replenishes aquifers and maintaining our
valuable fresh water supplies!
This revolutionary construction paving material is dynamic in its physical
nature and is mixed directly on the installation site. This product cures in
just 24-hours, resulting in an extremely porous, heavy duty, flexible
paving system designed for low speed applications such as parking lots,
sidewalks, trails for bicycles, roller blades, jogging, walking, running and
light weight vehicles such as golf carts.
KBI Flexi®-Pave has long-term, real world testing and provides superior functionality and design. Its unique properties and features give it a material classification all its own.
Flexible
Porous
Non-cracking (even in freeze/thaw conditions)
Slip-resistant
Superior impact absorption (can withstand 30 ton vehicles)
Heated surface options (non-freezing)
Utilizes high volumes of waste tires in its construction
Many color options
KBI Flexi®-Pave is also resistant to transmission fluid, brake fluid, hydraulic fluid, salt water, oil, chlorine, ozone, bromine, muriatic acid and other hostile materials.
These are properties that no other general material or paving system possess. It will never replace concrete but will greatly enhance a multitude of paving and other construction challenges in commercial, industrial and residential arenas.
FLEXIBLE: The flexibility of KBI Flexi®-Pave gives it enormous resistance to sub surface movement that would normally cause trip hazards and separation - ultimately causing costly repairs and site liabilities.
EXTREME POROSITY: Given its porous properties, a developer can reduce the need for stormwater retention, providing greater value in the building design and size.
RESISTANT TO FREEZE/THAW: Freeze/thaw conditions will not crack the material as the rubber provides for a monolithic expansion and contraction joint. Providing light heat in a northern winter condition can eliminate costly plowing and chemical costs.
SLIP RESISTANT: Slip resistance due to the high rubber content makes it suitable for inclined paving.
IMPACT ABSORBING: The impact absorption qualities makes this a very favorable surface for jogging trails, nature walks, training facilities, etc.
MANY COLOR OPTIONS: Color coordinated or natural options provide the designer or client the ability to match, blend, or highlight colors depending on their desire.
